‘Kaya / O Brother’

Aluminum wire, stretched Hanji fiber and Daphne fiber. 44" x 24" x 16

My younger brother’s demise was a shock and left a profound impact on me. In this work I wanted to capture the delicate and ephemeral nature of the body as a visceral experience. Handmade paper is a tactile and sensitive medium that can be sturdy and gentle at once. The outer membrane-like layers are made from stretched Hanji fiber and inner form is created from Daphne fiber.
